WELCOME TO PERMANENT COSMETICS

SILVER LININGS

2020 has been tumultuous for so many in countless ways, but when I talk to clients about reflection on things that have been positive we can always come up with a list of good blessings. In February I received a call from Jamilla El-Shafei of Permanent Cosmetics by Jamilla that changed my life and put me on a much different career trajectory than the one I had been on for years. It has been a time of huge growth for me personally and professionally as I have had to work through many fears including starting a new business during a pandemic and learning a brand new art form while trying to balance my family and personal time.

So for me, what I hope to achieve for myself and my clients is balance while doing something that I love and I am passionate about. I am thrilled to be part of the beauty and business community in York, ME and to be surrounded by talented women who are so driven to help their clients achieve the best version of themselves. I am hoping to infuse self-love and self-care into my business by providing a welcoming environment where clients can relax, unwind and escape.

I have been passionate about beauty and fashion for as long as I can remember. I literally began "making" makeup at age five, insisting that aunts and family friends serve as my models. This sensibility followed me to the University of Rhode Island, where I graduated with a B.S. in Textiles Merchandising and Design in 1994. This degree allowed me to work in the fashion and beauty industry at the corporate level, in particular as an assistant buyer for Cherry & Webb from the mid to late '90s. In 2009, while working as an administrator at a beauty institute, I began my formal training as a makeup artist at David Nicholas International in Boston. After completing Studio, Master's and Advanced level curricula, I launched a traveling makeup artistry business, providing makeup services for weddings and special events. During this time I also became a licensed esthetician, graduating from Spa Tech Institute in Westbrook, Maine in 2011. Shortly thereafter I began work as a business consultant for Dermalogica Skin Care in the Maine and New Hampshire regions. In 2014 I fulfilled a lifelong dream, opening my first business, beautifulME Beauty Boutique and Skin Care in Gray, ME.

However, the births of my twin children during the spring of 2015 eventually compelled me to put that business on hold, leading me to my most recent post as an Area Manager for Sally Beauty. Now, with my twins in kindergarten, I am ecstatic to find the time and flexibility to once more put my knowledge, expertise and passion into a small business endeavor. I look forward to continuing Jamilla's amazing work and maintaining her meticulous attention to detail as I take the helm of Permanent Cosmetics. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to train under Jamilla (a 400 hour apprenticeship), and am honored to continue to serve the clientele she has developed over the last 26 years.
